Branding

Hi Friends and Family,

This month’s blog is all about branding. More specifically, my author brand.

Before I published my first book, I was told by my publisher that I needed to create a website, social accounts, and more. So, I did. But do you know what was missing?

That’s right, my brand!

No one told me the importance of an author brand—a logo, banner, website design, and/or style that’s recognizable and uniquely me. Luckily, I have amazing author friends and follow them on their social accounts as well as subscribe to their newsletters. I also follow marketers. Both regularly discuss the importance of an author’s brand. As a result, I’ve learned along the way, adapting my social media accounts and website to fit my author brand. For instance, I have the same photo on all my social media profiles, cards, and website, and a few key words to represent who I am and what I offer readers. But I know I can do more.

My website hasn’t been refreshed much from when I first started it four years ago, and that’s okay. Part of my author journey is discovering and learning along the way. These next few months, I’m going to be refreshing my website as well as my socials.

I know who I am and what my mission is: I’m an author who is committed to bringing more love into the world, one book at a time.

I write swoony romance with strong heroines who achieve their dreams and find deep, meaningful love.

I also write children’s books for my kiddos—books that open children’s eyes to new, joyous adventures, and encourage them to dream big. I want my refreshed brand to represent my mission with soft tones (and yes, pink is my favorite :)), books (of course!), and warm, welcoming content.

A few months ago, I created a logo (hint, it’s in this newsletter!). Two weeks ago, I took new author photos at Heartbound Bookshop. Thank you so much, ladies! Next, I’m going to be incorporating these elements into my socials, newsletter, and website, creating a more harmonious brand.

Such a fun afternoon in the bookshop…and I might’ve left with a book or two as well!

I know you must be wondering—do I have a designer? No. I’m doing my best with a small budget, SquareSpace templates, and a can-do attitude. It’s been fun learning along the way, and like everything with being an indie author, there are struggles and celebrations. I can’t wait to celebrate my refreshed brand with you all.

If you love your website or a particular author’s website, I’d love recommendations!

I’d also love it if you’d peruse my website if you have a few minutes. Let me know what you like and/or what you’d like to see.

Until next time, I send you lots of love.

xo
